LOS ANGELES - Texas A&M women's basketball All-America candidate Danielle Adams was selected to the John R. Wooden Award National Ballot sent out Monday by The Los Angeles Athletic Club to nearly 1,000 members of the media who cover college basketball.

Adams, a unanimous 2011 All-Big 12 First Team choice and a 2011 Big 12 All-Tournament team performer, is the first Aggie women's basketball player to receive the prestigious honor.

Selected by the Wooden Award National Advisory Board, the final national ballot is made up of 20 women's basketball student-athletes who, based on their performances throughout the season, are the candidates for college basketball's most prestigious honors. All 20 players have proven to their universities that they are also making progress toward graduation and are maintaining at least a cumulative 2.0 GPA.

From Kansas City, Mo., Adams is the Big 12 Conference's leading scorer (22.7 ppg) who has set numerous records at Texas A&M, including most points (40) and most blocked shots (10) in a single game, most points in a single season (726) and most points in two consecutive seasons (1,265). She posted 13 double-doubles this year and is also a member of the Naismith midseason list and the Wade Trophy Watch List. The 6-foot-1 combination forward/center records a team-best 8.6 rebounds per game and was the only five-time Big 12 Player of the Week in the league this season.

The Wooden Award Women's All American Teams will be announced the week of the "Elite Eight" round during the NCAA Tournament, making it unique among college postseason awards.

The 35th annual Wooden Award ceremony, which will include the announcement of the men's and women's Wooden Award winners, a tribute to Coach Wooden and Wooden Award Founder, Duke Llewellyn, and the presentation of the Wooden Award All American Team trophies and the Legends of Coaching Award to Michigan State Head Coach Tom Izzo, will take place April 8, 2011 at The Los Angeles Athletic Club.
