COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Fresh off a strong second-place showing at the power-packed Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters last weekend, the Texas A&M men's golf team moved up three spots to No. 7 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
The Aggies have finished fourth or better in every tournament this season and have had a tremendous start to their spring campaign. A&M won the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in late February and placed second in its two other events, at Southern Highlands and the John Burns Intercollegate in Hawai'i.
Oklahoma State is ranked No. 1, followed by UCLA, Alabama, Georgia Tech and Florida. Illinois is sixth, with the Aggies, San Diego State, Auburn and Texas rounding out the top 10.
Individually, junior Jordan Russell is ranked 15th nationally. The College Station native tops the squad with a 71.2 stroke average and has finished 16th or better in seven of the Aggies' eight tournaments this season, including five top-5 finishes.
Texas A&M returns to action this Sunday when the Aggies compete in the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship at Hawk's Ridge Golf Club outside Atlanta. The seeding and first-round pairings for the event will be revealed on Wednesday on Golfweek TV. Visit golfweek.com or collegiatematchplay.com for more information.
