COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M women's tennis program broke into the top 25 in the nation, coming in at No. 25 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association team rankings released today.
It marks the first top-25 showing for A&M since the team was No. 24 on March 3, 2009.
The Aggies, 7-0 in home matches, have won seven of their last eight matches to improve to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the Big 12 Conference. Seven of the eight wins have been against teams in the ITA rankings.
Eight teams represent the Big 12 in this week's ITA rankings, including seven teams that are in the top 50: No. 9 Baylor, No. 18 Oklahoma, No. 25 Texas A&M, No. 26 Texas, No. 39 Kansas State and No. 49 Texas Tech.
A&M returns to action Saturday at No. 39 Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan. The Wildcats, 10-2 overall and 1-1 in the Big 12 entering a match against Texas on Friday, have tied the school record for the best start in school history after 12 matches, including a stunning 4-3 win against No. 9 Baylor last weekend in Waco.
First serve is slated for 12 p.m., and depending on weather conditions, the match will be played either outdoors at the Wamego Recreation Complex in Wamego, Kan., or indoors at the Body First Tennis and Fitness Center in Manhattan.
