The Aggies and Owls, long-time Southwest Conference foes, will meet for the 273th time on the baseball diamond Tuesday. Texas A&M holds a 177-93-2 advantage in the all-time series, however, Rice owns a 29-10 lead in the series since 1994.
Earlier this season on March 5, the two squads met during play at the Houston College Classic at Minute Maid Park with the Owls edging the Aggies for a 1-0 victory.
UP NEXT
The Aggies return to Big 12 play this weekend as they face Baylor in a three-game series. Friday's game will take place at Baylor Ballpark before the scene shifts to A&M's Olsen Field for Saturday and Sunday.
NOTES AND NOTABLES
• Texas A&M sits in a tie atop the Big 12 standings despite having played more road games during the first month of conference play than any other league school. The Aggies have played nine Big 12 games on the road and are 6-3 in those contests while no other Big 12 squad has played more than six games away from its home ball park.
• The 2011 season marks the first time the Aggies have won four straight conference series to begin Big 12 play. It also ties the best start by a Texas A&M team through its first 12 games of Big 12 play. The 1999 and 2008 teams also started 9-3 along the way to winning the league's regular season title.
• Freshman Krey Bratsen leads the Aggies in hitting during Big 12 play with a .423 batting average (22-for-52), edging fellow outfielder Tyler Naquin (.412) for the top spot on the squad in league play. Naquin, leads the Aggies for the overall season with a .394 clip at the plate.
• Naqiun has developed into one of the best hitters in the Big 12. The Spring, Texas, native has hit safely in 26 of 31 games played this season and has reached base in three of the five games he has not recorded a hit. The Spring, Texas, native is currently riding an eight-game hitting streak which is his third streak of such length this season and ties his career high.
• Moving to the lead-off spot in the A&M line-up for the Texas Tech series, Naquin responded by going 7-for-15 (.467).
• Junior first baseman Jacob House is finding his groove at the plate as the Mansfield, Texas, native has driven in at least one run in 10 of his last 14 games, including four mutli-RBI games and a total of 16 RBI. He has also hit safely in 10 of the 14 games with four mulit-hit games. Among the clutch knocks during his streak were a go-ahead RBI double in the ninth inning of a 4-3 win at Kansas State on April 2, a go-ahead two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning of a 7-5 win over SFA on March 22, a two-run, eighth inning double during March 20's 5-2 win at Oklahoma and most recently a game-tying RBI double in the top of the ninth on April 8 at Texas Tech to forced extra innings.
• The Aggies are 23-4 this season when scoring two or more runs and 19-1 when scoring four or more runs. A&M has lost eight games this season with six of the setbacks being of the one-run variety. Through the season's first 32 games, the Aggies have held opponent to two runs or less 18 times.
• Friday's game at Baylor will mark the end of the Aggies' most road heavy-stretch of their schedule, which has seen them play nine of 10 games away from College Station.
