COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M senior captain and All-American Austin Krajicek (CRY-check) was named the Big 12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week today by the Big 12 Office. This marks the fourth time in Krajicek's career to earn Big 12 Player of the Week honors.
"Austin is very worthy of any honor he receives," Aggie head coach Steve Denton said. "When you have one of your team leaders, and one of your best players that works as hard as Austin does, it makes the entire team better. It is great to see Austin's continued development as a player and he continues to work hard to get better."
Krajicek had a perfect week as he helped lead the Aggies to a 3-0 week with victories over Texas Tech (No. 19 at the time), Nebraska (No. 37) and UT-San Antonio. The Big 12 victories allowed A&M to remain in first place with a 4-0 league record.
The Brandon, Florida, native plays at the No. 1 position in singles and defeated the Texas Tech No. 1 player, Gonzolo Escobar, who was ranked No. 20 in singles. Krajicek was ranked No. 26 in the rankings last week and moved up to No. 21 in the latest rankings released today. Krajicek also posted a victory over Calin Paar the No. 1 player at Nebraska. Krajicek is 14-5 at the No. 1 line this spring and has posted wins over Ohio State's Chase Buchanan (No. 14), Pepperdine's Finn Tearney (No. 49) and Illinois' Johnny Hamui (No. 62) as well as Escobar (No. 20).
In doubles action, Krajicek teamed with his fellow senior All-American Jeff Dadamo to post a perfect 3-0 week with wins over Tech's No. 26-ranked duo of Carvalho and Garcia, Nebraska's No. 41-ranked tandem of Aumueller and Lindheim as well as the UT-San Antonio doubles team of Ayala and Moreiras. Krajicek and Dadamo were ranked No. 5 last week in the ITA rankings and moved up to No. 3 in today's recent rankings.
With the three doubles victories, Krajicek moved his A&M record doubles mark to 100 career wins in doubles play.
Krajicek earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors once as a sophomore on Mar. 23, 2009, and earned the honor twice last spring on Mar. 30 and Apr. 13, 2010.
