LINCOLN, Neb. - The Texas A&M women's tennis team faces Nebraska on Sunday in what will be the final time the two teams meet in a regular-season Big 12 Conference match. First serve is slated for noon and the match will be played in Lincoln at the 17th & Vine Street Courts if weather permits. Otherwise the match will be played at the Nebraska Tennis Center.
The Aggies, playing their last road match of the regular season, and the Huskers, who become members of the Big Ten Conference in July, are tied for fifth place in the Big 12 with 5-3 league marks. A&M, 12-6 overall and ranked 35th in the nation, is coming off a 4-3 victory at Iowa State on Friday. No. 34 Nebraska is 17-5 overall after falling to No. 25 Texas, 5-2, Friday in Lincoln.
Nazari Urbina, a sophomore from Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico, leads A&M and is ranked No. 27 in the nation in singles with a 24-8 overall record. She is 12-5 in dual matches, all at the No. 1 line, including 6-2 in Big 12 matches only after earning a straight-set victory at Iowa State on Friday.
Senior Morgan Frank (Oldsmar, Fla.) has won her last four matches at the No. 2 line to improve to 15-3 in dual matches, as well as 7-1 in Big 12 matches only. With a three-set win at ISU on Friday, she notched her 86th career victory and moved into sole possession of ninth place in the A&M all-time records.
Senior Stephanie Davidson (Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas) leads the Aggies in doubles victories with a 21-9 season record, including a 13-4 ledger in dual matches only. She posted her 95th career win and moved into sole possession of fifth place in the A&M all-time career records on Friday as she and Frank helped lead the Aggies to the doubles point against the Cyclones with an 8-2 win at the No. 2 line.
The Huskers are led by Madeleine Geibert, who improved to 5-1 at No. 1 singles in Big 12 matches after knocking off Krista Damico of Texas, 6-4, 7-6 (8), on Friday. Geibert and Stepfanie Weinstein are ranked No. 85 in the ITA national doubles rankings and are 15-5 at the No. 1 line.
A&M holds a 13-4 lead in the series against Nebraska, but the Huskers snapped a three-match losing skid against the Aggies last year with a 5-2 victory at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
A&M concludes the regular season next week with home matches against No. 7 Baylor and No. 44 Texas Tech, Wednesday and Friday, respectively. First serve is 6 p.m. at the Mitchell Tennis Center for both matches.
It will be a Maroon Out match against the Bears, and any fans wearing maroon will be admitted free.
On Friday, the Aggies will celebrate Senior Night on Friday, and seniors Davidson, Frank and Christi Liles (Largo, Fla.) will be playing the final home match of their four-year A&M careers.
The Big 12 Championship will be April 28-May 1 in Waco, Texas.
