COLLEGE STATION, Texas - For the second time this season, Texas A&M junior pitcher John Stilson and freshman outfielder Krey Bratsen have been recognized for their outstanding play on the baseball diamond. On Tuesday, Stilson was selected as the Phillips 66 Big 12 Co-Pitcher of the Week while Bratsen was selected as the league's Newcomer of the Week.
Kansas State's closer James Allen shared Pitcher of the Week honors with Stilson, while Missouri's Conner Mach edged Texas A&M outfielder Tyler Naquin for Player of the Week accolades.
A complete-game, career-high 12-strikeout performance highlighted Stilson's outing during a win over No. 15 Oklahoma State last Friday. Only a muffed throw at first base with two outs in the top of the ninth prevented Stilson from earning a complete game shutout.
The Texarkana, Texas, native retired the first 14 batters he faced and took a perfect game into the fifth inning before an OSU single broke up the no-hit bid. Stilson was undeterred by the single and retired nine straight following the hit. Scattering just four hits on the night, Stilson collected the most strikeouts in a game by an Aggie this season while walking none.
Bratsen, meanwhile, continues to tear up the Big 12 during his rookie campaign, going 8-for-16 (.500) last week with four runs, three RBI and a pair of multi-hit games.
During the opener of the OSU series, Bratsen went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI to help lead the Aggies to a victory. The Bryan, Texas, native again enjoyed a three-hit performance during the series finale, going 3-for-5 with a pair of runs and two stolen bases.
The Aggies are back in action Tuesday night as they host Sam Houston State in a 6:35 p.m. contest at Olsen Field.
