IRVING, Texas - Texas A&M senior Austin Krajicek (CRY-check) earned his third straight Big 12 Player of the Week honor the Big 12 Office announced. This marks the sixth time in Krajicek's career to earn this distinction, once as a sophomore, twice as a junior and three times as a senior.
Krajicek, a senior All-American and Aggie team captain from Brandon, Florida, defeated Baylor's No. 1 player, John Peers, 7-6, 6-3 last Wednesday in Waco. Peers was ranked No. 17 by the ITA and Krajicek was ranked No. 19 at the time. Krajicek came back to Aggieland to face arch-rival Texas on Saturday, Apr. 23 and posted a 6-4, 7-6 win against Kellen Damico, who was ranked No. 49, to clinch the match against the No. 12-ranked Longhorns.
Krajicek, the A&M career leader in doubles victories with 103, teamed with partner and fellow senior Jeff Dadamo, from Tampa, Florida, to post an 8-3 win over the country's No. 8-ranked doubles duo of Longhorns' Ed Corrie and Jean Andersen at the No. 1 doubles. With the 5-2 win by the Aggie team against No. 12-ranked Texas, the Aggies improved their record-setting home match winning streak to 34 straight matches.
Krajicek was recently named to the Academic All-Big 12 second-team for his work in the classroom as well as on the tennis courts. Krajicek is 17-5 this spring at the No. 1 line in singles and along with Jeff Dadamo has posted a 21-3 doubles record in 2011.
The Aggies open Big 12 Championship play on Friday against Oklahoma State at 12 noon at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco. The Aggies are 24-5 on the year and finished second in the Big 12 regular season with a 5-1 record.
