IRVING, Texas - Three Texas A&M men's tennis players earned Academic All-Big 12 honors this spring the Big 12 Office announced. Niall Angus, sophomore business administration major from London, England, was named to the first-team squad for posting better than a 3.20 grade-point average. Angus has posted a 12-1 record on the courts this spring and has a 4-1 record in doubles along with partner John Lewis, from Birmingham, Alabama.
For the third straight year, senior All-American Austin Krajicek, a psychology major from Brandon, Florida, earned second-team Academic All-Big 12 honors by posting a grade-point average between 3.00 and 3.19. Krajicek is currently ranked No. 18 in the nation in singles and along with his doubles partner Jeff Dadamo, from Tampa, Florida, the dynamic duo is currently ranked No. 4 in the country. Krajicek has played at the top of the lineup and has posted a 17-5 singles record and a 21-3 doubles mark. Krajicek holds the A&M record for doubles victories with 103 career wins.
Sophomore general studies major Alberto Bautista, from McAllen, Texas, was also named a second-team Academic All-Big 12 selection. Bautista has posted a 13-9 overall singles record including an 8-4 mark at the No. 5 line. Bautista has teamed with doubles partner Colin Hoover, from Victoria, Texas, to play at No. 3 doubles and the duo has a 17-5 mark this spring and is currently ranked No. 90 in the country.
The Aggies open Big 12 Championship play on Friday (Apr. 29) against Oklahoma State at 12 noon at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco, Texas. Texas A&M is 24-5 on the year, ranked No. 9 in the latest rankings, and finished second in the Big 12 regular season with a 5-1 league mark.
