COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M softball senior Kelsey Spittler went 6-for-7 in conference play last weekend and was named Big 12 Player of the Week for the first time in her career.

The Caldwell, Texas, native was hot at the plate, hitting an impressive .857 on the weekend, as she led the No. 21 Aggies to a conference sweep at Kansas. Spittler garnered four RBI on five base hits and a home run, leading the A&M offense with nine total bases.

The left fielder leads the Aggies in Big 12-only games with a .429 average, collecting a team-high 15 hits and 20 total bases. She is tied for second in the conference in individual batting for Big 12 games only and ranks third in conference stats in on base percentage (.500).

This is the first weekly honor A&M has received this season in a cutthroat conference billet. Missouri's Chelsea Thomas was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week alongside Spittler. This is her sixth-career honor and her fifth this season.

The 22nd-ranked Aggies host No. 3 Texas tomorrow at the Aggie Softball Complex. The game is slated for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch and will air nationally on FSN. Tickets remain available for the game, which is a part of the 2011 State Farm Lone Star Showdown, and can be purchased online at www.12thmanfoundation.com/tickets.
