COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Four members of the Texas A&M men's golf program were named to the Academic-All Big 12 golf team, the conference office announced.
Seniors Bryant Lach (The Woodlands), John Hurley (O'Neill, Neb.) and Conrad Shindler (Coppell), along with junior Jordan Russell (College Station), were honored as part of the 41-member team. Lach, Hurley and Russell were first-team selections, while Shindler was a second-team honoree.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services, first team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
In addition, nine members of the team were honored as Texas A&M Athletics Scholars at this week's annual CHAMPS Banquet held on the A&M campus. Highlighting the honorees was sophomore Case Cochran, who earned an Outstanding Athletics Scholar Award for posting a perfect 4.0 GPA.
The Aggies will find out their postseason fate on Monday at 5 p.m. when the NCAA field is revealed by the selection committee. Regional play is scheduled for May 19-21 at six sites around the country, with the NCAA Championship set for May 31-June 5 at Karsten Creek in Stillwater.
