COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M soccer senior Rachel Shipley was recently named a Bill Erwin Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the annual CHAMPS awards banquet at the Zone at Kyle Field.
Each year the award honors a male and female student-athlete in their final season of eligibility at A&M who have excelled in academics and athletics, and represent the university with distinction and class.
From Plano, Texas, Shipley was also recognized for her diverse achievements when she was named a Lowe's Senior CLASS Award finalist this year. The midfielder is a finance major who has maintained above a 3.5 grade point average throughout her time at A&M and has exemplified the Aggie Spirit through community service.
Shipley finished a strong collegiate soccer career with an outstanding 2010 season, leading the Aggies to their 11th Big 12 title. As a senior, she was twice named Big 12 Player of the Week while receiving three national weekly awards. She was also selected to the Big 12 All-Tournament team, the Academic All-Big 12 first team, the ESPN Academic All-America third team and the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Season third team.
