2011 Capital One Academic All-America Teams in PDF Format ![]()
OKLAHOMA CITY - Enjoying a standout season on the baseball diamond and in the classroom, Texas A&M junior pitcher Ross Stripling was honored this week with a selection to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America Third Team.
The Capital One Academic All-America teams were selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and Stripling was one of only four Big 12 players to be honored as an Academic All-American.
Already this season, Stripling has been recognized with a first team Academic All-Big 12 selection and a spot on the Capital One Academic All-District Six Team. Additionally, the Southlake, Texas, native earned first team All-Big 12 honors with a standout season pitching for the Maroon and White.
Stripling, a junior finance major, maintains an impressive 3.64 GPA in the classroom and has developed into one of the nation's top pitchers. Entering the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championships, he owns a 12-2 record on the mound with a 1.89 ERA and three saves. The right-hander was one of the league's steadiest hurlers all season, ranking in the top four in the Big 12 in wins (12), strikeouts (89), innings pitched (95.0), opponent batting average (.193), complete games (3) and shutouts (1).
Stripling and his Aggie teammates are back in action Thursday when they face Kansas State in the second round of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship at RedHawks Field in Oklahoma City. The A&M right-hander is scheduled to toe the rubber during the Aggies' third game at the tournament, either Friday or Saturday.
