STILLWATER, Okla. - Texas A&M sophomore Cameron Peck fired a 4-under 68 on Tuesday to lift the Aggies into fourth place after one round of the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships at Karsten Creek.

Peck (Olympia, Wash.) carded the second-lowest round in school history at the NCAA Championship and sits just one shot out of the lead. His round included five birdies and only one bogey on the par-72, 7,416-yard track. Including his team-leading performance at last week's regional in Tucson, Peck is 10-under par for the entire NCAA Tournament.

Karsten lived up to its reputation on Tuesday, as just two of the 30 teams in the field broke par. Georgia Tech leads after firing a 5-under 283, followed by UCLA (-2) and Alabama (E). Texas A&M carded a 1-over 289 to sit six shots back of the lead, with Illinois (+3), Georgia (+3), Ohio State (+3) and host Oklahoma State (+4) holding the final qualifying spots at this point in the tournament.

The top eight teams after three rounds of stroke play advance to the match play rounds, which begin on Friday.

Defending national champion Augusta State (+6) is in ninth, while Kennesaw State and San Diego State are tied for 10th at 7-over. Other Big 12 teams in the field include Texas (13th, +11) and Oklahoma (30th, +25).

Senior Nacho Elvira shot an even-par 72 and is in a tie for 19th, while junior Jordan Russell carded a 1-over 73 and is in 34th. Senior John Hurley (76, +4) is in 75th while senior Conrad Shindler (77, +5) is one shot back in 90th. Only 18 of the 156 players in the field broke par on Tuesday.

Texas A&M opens second-round play on Wednesday beginning at 7:50 a.m. The Aggies will tee off from the first hole and will be paired again with San Diego State and Illinois. Live scoring will be available on ncaa.com and aggieathletics.com.
