COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M men's golf team is ranked fifth in the final edition of the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, released Monday. It is the second-highest end-of-season ranking in program history.
"The final ranking just shows that we had a terrific year," head coach J.T. Higgins said. "The last few years have been an incredible run and the players, coaches and staff should all be proud of all that they have accomplished. When you qualify for the National Championship on a consistent basis, finish in the top 10 and win championships, you are part of an elite group. I think Texas A&M is on that level and this ranking is just further proof that we belong with that group."
For the Aggies, it is the second-straight top-five finish. A&M wrapped last season at No. 3.
Texas A&M placed fifth or higher in every tournament during the regular season, including two victories--the Wyoming Desert Classic in February and the Aggie Invitational in April. A&M followed with runner-up finishes at the Big 12 Championship and NCAA Southwest Regional, and closed the year with a ninth-place finish at the NCAA finals last week in Stillwater.
The Aggies are one of just four programs nationally to post top-15 finishes at the NCAA Championship in each of the last four seasons.
