GREENWICH, Conn. - Texas A&M golfer Nacho Elvira will begin play in the prestigious 2011 Palmer Cup on Thursday morning at The Stanwich Club.
Elvira (Santander, Spain) will be one of eight collegians representing Team Europe against Team USA in the Ryder Cup-style competition. Elvira will team with Sebastian Cappelen (University of Arkansas) to face off against the United States' Bank Vongvanij (Florida) and Andrew Yun (Stanford) beginning at 7:30 a.m. Eastern.
Elvira becomes only the second Aggie to ever be selected to compete in the event, as Andrea Pavan represented the Europeans in each of the last two seasons.
Other four-ball pairings will pit America's Patrick Cantlay (UCLA) and Alex Carpenter (Abilene Christian) versus Europe's Nils Floren (Texas Tech) and Jeff Karlsson (Kennesaw State); America's Daniel Miernicki (Oregon) and Chris Williams (Washington) versus Europe's Robert Karlsson (Liberty) and Nick MacAndrew (Aberdeen); and America's Blayne Barber (Auburn) and Russell Henley (Georgia) versus Europe's Henrik Norlander (Augusta State) and Pontus Widegren (UCLA).
Afternoon four-ball matches will begin at 2 p.m. (EDT) with pairings to be determined.
