IRVING, Texas – Texas A&M was picked to finish second in the 2011 Big 12 Football Preseason Poll, which was voted on by media representatives who cover the Conference.

It was the highest the Aggies have been picked to finish since being predicted to win the Big 12 in the 1999 preseason media poll. Oklahoma was picked to defend its 2010 title with 41 first-place votes and 428 points. A narrow gap of two points separated the next two positions as the Aggies finished in second with one first-place vote and 362 points. Oklahoma State was picked third, also garnering a first-place vote and registering 360 points.

The Aggies, Sooners and Cowboys tied for the South division title in 2010 -- the final season of division standings. Missouri (281 points) and Texas (265 points) rounded out the top five of the preseason poll. The Tigers tied for the North division title last season.

Head coaches and selected student-athletes will converge in Dallas from July 25-26 for the annual Big 12 Football Media Days. Representing the Aggies in Dallas will be head coach Mike Sherman and players Jeff Fuller, Cyrus Gray, Trent Hunter and Ryan Tannehill. Live video coverage, including press conferences and one-on-one interviews with a variety of guests, will be featured both days on Big12Sports.com.
