Texas A&M's Olivier Named ITA Scholar Athlete

Texas A&M's Sheri Olivier has been named an ITA Scholar Athlete, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association has announced.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M's Sheri Olivier has been named an ITA Scholar Athlete, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association has announced.

To qualify for ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must meet the following criteria:
1. be a varsity letterwinner;
2. have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale) for the current academic year;
3. have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).

Earlier this year, Olivier (pronounced o-LIV-ee-ay), a human resources development major from Topeka, Kan., was named to the Academic All-Big 12 Women's Tennis First Team for the second consecutive year. She recently completed her junior season for the Aggies, posting a 15-10 record in doubles in 2010-11, including a team-leading 13-6 record with senior Stephanie Davidson.

Olivier is competing at various ITA tournaments this summer, and last weekend she captured the doubles championship title at the ITA Summer Circuit Tournament held at Collin Community College in Plano, Texas. Olivier teamed with Millie Nichols of Austin, Texas, who recently completed her freshman year at the University of Tennessee. The pair, seeded second in the tournament field, topped the No. 1 seed duo of Kally Akirie (Dallas, Texas/Xavier) and former Oklahoma Sooner Irina Lykina, 8-3, in the championship match.
