Aggies Advance to Quarterfinals at ITA Summer Circuit

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M's Colin Hoover and Jordan Szabo have advanced to the quarterfinals in the singles bracket of the ITA Summer Circuit being held this weekend at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.

Hoover (Victoria, Texas), the tournament's No. 2 seed, defeated Billy Bishop of Houston, 6-3, 6-1, in the round of 32 and then earned a straight-set 6-4, 6-1 victory over Jacob Rother of Spring Branch, Texas, in the round of 16.

Hoover, who will be a senior in the fall, will play No. 6 seed Will Stein from Argyle, Texas, in the quarterfinals Sunday morning.

Szabo (Baywater, Victoria, Australia), the tournament's No. 3 seed, also posted two straight-set victories to advance. He topped David Ballenger of San Antonio, 6-2, 6-4, in the round of 32 and then defeated Marlu Jansen van Vuuren of Houston, 6-0, 6-2, in the round of 16.

Szabo, a freshman who joined the Aggies in January, will play No. 5 seed Charles Boyce of Cedar Hill, Texas, in the quarterfinals.

A&M's Daniel Brown (Montgomery, Texas), a No. 9-16 seed, advanced to the round of 16 when Coleman Wahlborg retired after dropping the first set, 6-2, in the round of 32. Brown then fell to Charles Boyce, 7-5, 6-1, in the round of 16.

Sunday's quarterfinal matches are slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. Admission is free.
