COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M's Colin Hoover won two singles matches Sunday to advance to the finals at the ITA Summer Circuit being held at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
Hoover (Victoria, Texas), the tournament's No. 2 seed, will battle top-seeded and Big 12-foe Daniel Whitehead of the University of Texas in the championship match to be played Monday at 9 a.m. at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
Hoover, who will be a senior in the fall, defeated No. 6 seed Will Stein from Argyle, Texas, 6-4, 7-5, in quarterfinal action. He then dropped his first set of the tournament to No. 3 seed Jordan Szabo in the semifinals but came back to defeat his Aggie teammate 3-6, 6-3, 12-10, to advance to Monday's championship match.
Szabo (Baywater, Victoria, Australia), a freshman who joined the Aggies in January, was coming off a three-set victory, having defeated No. 5 seed Charles Boyce of Cedar Hill, Texas, 6-1, 3-6, 11-9, in the quarterfinals.
Admission to the tournament is free.
