GLENVIEW, Ill. - Three Texas A&M all-American golfers will compete in the 109th Western Amateur this week, which begins Tuesday at North Shore Country Club outside Chicago.
Senior Jordan Russell, junior Cameron Peck and Conrad Shindler--who recently completed his A&M career--will all participate.
The field--which features the world's top four amateurs and 50 of the top 100--is considered the best in the history of the event, which first took place in 1899.
Players will compete in 18-hole rounds on Tuesday and Wednesday, after which the field will be cut to 44 players. After a final stroke-play round on Thursday, the top 16 will advance to the match play rounds. The championship will take place on Saturday.
The trio was part of a lineup that led the Aggies to their second-consecutive top-five finish in the national rankings this past spring, along with a ninth-place showing at the NCAA Championships.
Shindler (8 a.m.) will be the first off the tee box on Tuesday, with Russell (1:20 p.m.) and Peck (1:30 p.m.) beginning their rounds in the afternoon. For more information and complete tee times, log on to thewesternamateur.com.
