PALO ALTO, Calif. - Texas A&M sophomore-to-be Cammile Adams' third-place finish in the Championship final of the 400-meter IM highlighted the Aggies' third day at the ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships on Thursday at Stanford University.
Adams, from Cypress, Texas, grabbed the 400 IM bronze medal with a time of 4:42.99, finishing behind a pair of swimmers that will also enter their collegiate sophomore seasons this fall: Elizabeth Beisel of Florida and Madeline Dirado of Stanford. Beisel grabbed the gold in 4:34.78, while Dirado was second in 4:37.88. Adams' time in both the prelims and finals were 2012 Olympic Trials cuts.
"I was definitely extremely excited to medal," Adams said via text message. "I think there were some tremendous competitors in the field which makes it a great competition. Beisel and Dirado are really great racers, and are both well deserving of their accomplishments last night."
Also grabbing their Trials cuts on Thursday were sophomore Erica Dittmer, junior John Dalton and senior Alyssa Conner. Dittmer posted a pair of Trials cuts with times of 1:11.76 in the 100 breaststroke and 26.38 in the 50 free. Dalton grabbed his cut in the 50 free with a time of 23.27; and Conner tallied hers in the 400 IM with a time of 4:55.45.
