Mocio Fires Solid 1st Round at U.S. Amateur

Texas A&M sophomore-to-be Chelsea Mocio fired a solid opening round of one-over par at the 111th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship on Monday at the Rhode Island Country Club.

BARRINGTON, R.I. - Texas A&M sophomore-to-be Chelsea Mocio fired a solid opening round of one-over par at the 111th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship on Monday at the Rhode Island Country Club.

With the top 64 players in the standings after two rounds advancing to match play, Mocio, from Fort Worth, Texas, stands in a tie for 14th after shooting a 73. Mocio started her round on the 10th hole and was 3-over at the turn, but scorched the front nine with four birdies.
 
Mocio continues play on Tuesday with an 8:17 a.m. tee time from the first hole, and will be paired with UCLA All-American Stephanie Kono and 2011 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Jessica Wallace of the University of Colorado.Â
