Texas A&M sophomore-to-be Chelsea Mocio dropped a narrow decision to Jaye Marie Green in the first round of match play at U.S. Women's Amateur Championship on Wednesday at the Rhode Island CC.

BARRINGTON, R.I. --- Texas A&M sophomore-to-be Chelsea Mocio dropped a narrow decision to Jaye Marie Green in the first round of match play at U.S. Women's Amateur Championship on Wednesday at the Rhode Island Country Club.

Mocio, from Fort Worth, Texas,  and Green were all square heading into the par four 18th hole, but Green took the 1-up victory with a par while Mocio carded a bogey. Mocio took a 1-up lead with birdie on the first hole and she moved to 2-up with another birdie on the sixth hole. Green rallied to get even on the eight hole and then took a 1-up lead on the ninth. Green held the lead until Mocio won consecutive holes at 14 and 15 to go 1-up. The match went back to all-square on 16 before Green grabbed the win on the final hole of regulation.

Mocio's strong performance at the U.S. Amateur culminates a strong summer for the Aggie, who also qualified for the U.S. Women's Open with rounds of 72-71 at a qualifier at the Prestonwood Country Club and went on to shoot rounds of 81-78 at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colo.
