COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M football team went through the first two-a-day practice of the 2011 fall camp on Sunday and will hold its first scrimmage on Monday morning at Kyle Field.
“I thought things went well (on the first day of two-a-day practices),” fourth-year head coach Mike Sherman said. “We had a good day. Except for one-half of one practice, they've come out fired up and done a good job (throughout fall camp). I'm proud of where they are right now.”
Sherman will get a closer look at his team when the Aggies hold their first live scrimmage of the fall at 8:25 on Monday morning at Kyle Field.
“We'll see how the guys handle tackling, getting off blocks, making blocks, finishing blocks, as well as working on our tempo,” Sherman said. “We've kind of had to teach tempo out here. We slow it down so the young guys can learn, but during the scrimmages we always pick it up and challenge them to go a little faster.”
Sherman was asked how the 2011 team, which is ranked No. 9 nationally, is different from his first A&M squad in 2008.
“We compete a lot better in practice, guys really challenge each other,” Sherman said. “I've always felt competition brings out the best in everybody. I think we have better competition at positions than we did in the first year. When you look around the locker room you see some guys who can make play, and they have a better belief system that they can win a football game.”
PRACTICE GUIDELINES

· Practices are open to players' families, lettermen, current students, former students, faculty and staff with TAMU ID and 12th Man Foundation members.
