Aggies Down AMW Elite to Wrap European Tour

PARIS—Dash Harris and Elston Turner drained pivotal three pointers late and Turner added a pair of free throws in the final minute to lift Texas A&M to an 80-78 victory over AMW Elite in the final game of the Aggies' European Tour on Tuesday evening at Halle Georges Carpentier.

With the game tied at 72 inside two minutes to play, Turner took a great pass from Harris and hit his third trey of the half to give A&M the lead. After AMW answered back and cut the deficit to one, Harris came down the floor and canned a trey to put the Aggies up four with two minutes left.

AMW cut it to one with 50 seconds left before Turner was fouled, and the junior stepped to the line and calmly sank both. Following a few trips up and down the floor, AMW's Souarata Cisse was fouled on a three-point opportunity with five seconds left and stepped to the line with a chance to tie the game. After missing the first, Cisse hit the second and forced a miss on the final shot. Georgi Joseph grabbed the board, but was unable to hit a fall-away shot from a few feet out. The Aggies' Keith Davis grabbed the rebound and time ran out, giving Texas A&M the victory.

“I'm glad we got a win,” head coach Billy Kennedy said. “We produced a win, and that's the bottom line whenever you play. Our veterans played like veterans, especially in the last 10 minutes. I thought we were a little more lethargic and tired today. I don't know if it's the trip or the travel, but we figured out a way to get a win and I'm happy with that.”

Five Aggies scored in double figures on the night, led by senior David Loubeau's 14-point, 8-rebound effort. Kourtney Roberson recorded a double-double, pouring in 11 and grabbing 11 boards. Turner and Khris Middleton finished with 13, while Ray Turner had a strong game underneath with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Harris scored 9 while dishing out 6 assists and grabbing 5 boards.

AMW Elite, a collection of players from the top two professional leagues in France, Pro A and Pro B, shot 39 percent from the field and placed five in double figures on the night.

For the game, Texas A&M out-rebounded AMW, 52-37, and outshot the home squad, 49 percent to 39. The Aggies were 10-for-18 from behind the arc.

A&M concludes its European Tour with two wins, and the squad will head back to Texas on Wednesday morning.

“I think this trip was a real positive for us,” Kennedy said. “The kids were able to get a taste of our style of play, especially offensively. We'll go back and spend most of our preseason preparing defensively. I thought we got a good feel for who can do what. The relationships were also built and that was a good start.”
