SHENZHEN, China -- Texas A&M senior Julian Reid produced a mark of 26 feet, 1 ¼ inches (7.96) to earn a bronze medal in the long jump for Great Britain at the World University Games. Earlier in the week Reid placed fifth in the triple jump.

Sunday's long jump competition was won by China's Su Xiongfeng, with a leap of 26-9 ¾ (8.17), while U.S. champion Marquise Goodwin claimed the silver medal with a mark of 26-4 ¼ (8.03).

Going into the final round Reid was stationed in seventh place based on his opening round leap of 25-8 ¾ (7.84). A sixth round effort of 26-1 ¼ tied Reid with Nigeria's Stanley Gbagbeke, who was the NCAA runner-up for Middle Tennessee State during the 2010 collegiate season. Reid had a better second mark, which broke the tie and enabled Reid to secure the bronze medal.

Reid placed fifth in the triple jump for Great Britain with a mark of 54 feet, 6 inches (16.61) during the finals held on Thursday.

Reid recorded his best mark in the sixth and final round to break away from a tie he was in with Elvijs Misans of Latvia, and missed taking over fourth place by three and half inches. Defending Olympic champion Nelson Evora of Portugal won the event with a leap of 56-9 ½.
