ERIN, Wis.--Texas A&M senior All-American Jordan Russell rallied from two holes down to defeat Zahkai Brown, 1 up, and advance to the round of 32 Wednesday evening at the 2011 U.S. Amateur Championship at Erin Hills Golf and Country Club outside Milwaukee.
Â
Russell (College Station) trailed Brown by two holes after a bogey on the par-4 10th. After the two matched scores on the 11th and 12th, Russell made his move--with pars on the 13th and 14th holes--squaring up the match. He took a one-hole lead after a par on 16, but Brown birdied 17 to make the match all-square heading into the 675-yard, par-5 18th.
Â
Brown double-bogeyed the hole, allowing Russell to clinch the win by sinking a bogey putt. The Aggie senior will face Bryson Dechambeau, a senior at Clovis East High School in California, in the round of 32 at 11:10 a.m. (CT) on Thursday.
Â
A&M's other representative in the match-play field, sophomore Jade Scott (Daingerfield), did not get to begin his match against incoming Texas freshman Jordan Spieth. It will get underway at 7:42 a.m. (CT) on Thursday morning.
Â
Live scoring for all matches will be available on usga.org. The Golf Channel will air live coverage of the US Am beginning at 1 p.m. (CT).
