ERIN, Wis.—Texas A&M senior All-American Jordan Russell and sophomore Jade Scott made the cut on Wednesday morning and advanced to match play at the 2011 U.S. Amateur Championships outside Milwaukee.
Russell (College Station) tied for 30th after carding a 2-under 140 (68-72) through stroke play. He carded a 2-under 68 in Monday's first round at the 6,622-yard Blue Mound Golf Club, then shot even par on Tuesday at the 7,760-yard, par-72 Erin Hills Golf Club.
Scott (Daingerfield), who redshirted last season after transferring from Rice University, finished one shot back in a tie for 48th at 1-under (74-67=141). Scott's strong second round, a 3-under at Blue Mound, got him above the cut, which was the top 64 players in the field of 312.
The first round of match play, which is seeded much like the NCAA basketball tournament in bracket format, will start later Wednesday. The final round of stroke play wrapped up early this morning after play was suspended due to darkness late Tuesday evening.
Second and third rounds will take place Thursday, with quarterfinals scheduled for Friday and semifinals on Saturday. The 36-hole match-play final is set for Sunday.
Pairings for the first round of match play will be available later today on usga.org. Live hole-by-hole scoring will be available at usga.org and The Golf Channel will provide live two-hour coverage beginning at 1 p.m. (CT).
