COLLEGE STATION, Texas - All students wearing a 2011 Fish Camp t-shirt will receive free admission as the reigning Big 12 Champion Texas A&M soccer team hosts its annual Fish Camp Night Friday, officially kicking off the festivities of First Yell Weekend in Aggieland.Â
The Aggies will face Dartmouth this Friday night at 6:30 p.m. in the newly-upgraded Ellis Field. Immediately following the soccer game, the Aggie Yell Leaders will host their annual First Yell next door at Reed Arena, featuring comedian Brian Regan.Â
"Now that classes have begun, we are very excited about welcoming our students to Ellis Field so they can get a feel for the great upgrades and improvements that have taken place inside the Aggie soccer stadium," head coach G Guerrieri said. "This Fish Camp game is traditionally the first athletic event of the year for our new freshman class."
Fish Camp is a student-run, three-day overnight orientation camp conducted near Palestine, Texas, where new Aggie students are introduced to the history, camaraderie, and traditions of Texas A&M by upper-classmen. Â Seven Fish Camp sessions were conducted in the weeks leading up to the start of A&M classes in late August.
In the past, Fish Camp Night has drawn some of the largest crowds in NCAA soccer history. Last season, A&M defeated No. 16 Virginia Tech 3-2 in the corresponding match, drawing the fifth-largest group in the history of the program with 5,560 attendees.
This season students will be able to enjoy every match from midfield on the east end of the stadium, as well as on the entire north and south end bleachers, immediately behind each goal. Plus, new party decks are available at the top of the east grandstand for standing room-only crowds.
"The Aggie class of 2015 is the largest ever freshman class in the history of Texas A&M, and we can't wait to get them to our game," Guerrieri said.
On Monday afternoon, the Aggies will host McNeese State at Ellis Field with a 1:30pm Labor Day kickoff. The first 100 A&M students to come to the Monday game will receive a free 12th Man Team soccer jersey, while 15 signed jerseys will be given to lucky fans during the game. As is usual for every Sunday game this weekend, kids will also get in free on Monday. One adult ticket will get four kids into the stadium for free.
Both soccer matches will feature live video and live audio on AggieAthletics.com. For more information on Texas A&M soccer, log on to www.AggieAthletics.com
