Black collected tournament Most Valuable Player accolades for the third consecutive weekend after hitting .300 and averaging team highs of 3.50 kills and 4.31 points per set as the Aggies won the Ladyjack Invitational at Stephen F. Austin and improved to 9-0 for the season. The team captain also averaged 3.50 digs, 0.88 blocks and 0.38 aces per set.
In the tournament-opening 3-1 victory against host SFA on Friday, Black posted team highs of 13 kills and 17.5 points and also pitched in 19 digs. In addition, she set a career high with six block assists and tied her career high with six total blocks against the Ladyjacks.
In the match against Northern Illinois, which entered the tournament one spot ahead of A&M in votes received in the AVCA Top 25 Poll, Black had a team-high 15 kills while hitting at a .333 clip to pace the Aggies to a 3-1 victory and the tournament title.
For the season, Black is hitting .330 and tops the Aggies and is ranked third in the Big 12 with 4.18 kills, 0.50 aces and 4.89 points per set. She has reached double figures in kills in eight of nine matches and also has tallied five double-doubles in kills and digs.
Black and the Aggies conclude the non-conference road portion of their schedule against Xavier, Toledo and Michigan this weekend at the Michigan/adidas Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich. A&M, which climbed 10 spots to 28th in this week's AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll, opens against Xavier at 10 a.m. on Friday and needs a win against the Musketeers to improve to 10-0 and match the 2007 team for the best season start in A&M history. The Aggies then take on Toledo at 4:30 p.m. on Friday before closing out the tournament against 18th-ranked Michigan on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Cliff Keen Arena. (All times are Central).
