Kunz and Groom Earn Big 12 Weekly Honors

Texas A&M soccer freshmen Annie Kunz and Shea Groom were named Big 12 Players of the Week, the conference office announced today.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M soccer freshmen Annie Kunz and Shea Groom were named Big 12 Players of the Week, the conference office announced today.

Kunz (Golden, Colo.) took Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Groom (Liberty, Mo.) was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. This is the first honor for both Aggies.

Now leading the conference with five goals on the season, Kunz scored her career-first hat trick last Monday in the Aggies' 9-0 shutout of McNeese State. The six-foot forward contributed a fourth goal on the week in A&M's 4-3 overtime upset over No. 1 North Carolina on Sunday. Her goal tied the game at 1-1 in the 32nd minute

Groom leads the Aggies offensively this season with 12 points on four goals and four assists. This week the freshman forward kicked the golden goal against top-ranked UNC in the 91st minute to give A&M a come-from-behind victory. In the match against McNeese State, Groom assisted three goals as the Aggies rolled to a blowout win at home.

The victory over UNC marks the second time in Tar Heel history that an opponent has netted three consecutive goals, and the first time ever that a team has come back from a two-goal deficit to defeat North Carolina.

Kunz, Groom and the rest of the Aggie squad host Baylor this Friday in the first conference match of the season. The game is set for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff at Ellis Field. For more information on Texas A&M soccer, log on to AggieAthletics.com.
