No. 20 Aggies Finish Sixth at ?Mo?Morial

The No. 20 Texas A&M women's golf team closed with a round of 305 on Tuesday and finished sixth at the Texas A&M "Mo"morial Invitational at Traditions Golf Club.

BRYAN, TEXAS - The No. 20 Texas A&M women's golf team closed with a round of 305 on Tuesday and finished sixth at the Texas A&M "Mo"morial Invitational at Traditions Golf Club.

The Aggies carded a three-round total of 921 and trailed Texas (885), Auburn (887), Kentucky (914), North Texas (917) and Florida State (918). The A&M 'A' team finished ahead of Oklahoma (923), Michigan State (929), Tulane (931), Coastal Carolina (936), UTSA (947) and the Texas A&M 'B' team (958).

"We had a lot of good play out there," said A&M head coach Trelle McCombs. "There were a lot of good things I saw and just some things we have to grow on. I saw a lot of bounce backs when we made bogeys and doubles, but we also had some where we made bogeys and then followed up with a few more bogeys. We just have to balance that out a little bit in the tournaments to come."

Sophomore Katerina Ruzickova was Texas A&M's top finisher after recording a 5-over par 221 (74-73-74), which put her tied for sixth place.

"Katarina, had another top-10 finish," McCombs said. "She's just steady. She doesn't ever get too high and doesn't ever get too low. She didn't have quite enough putts drop, but she'll get there."

"If those couple putts would have fallen down, I might have won the tournament," added Ruzickova. "But overall, I felt it was a good start for the season and I learned a lot."

With a strong score of 1-over in her final two rounds, sophomore Natalie Reeves (80-73-73) placed tied for 13th with an 11-over 227. Junior Sarah Beth Davis (80-76-73) carded a 1-over in her final round to finish tied for 18th with a 13-over 229.

Junior transfer Mary Michael Maggio (79-79-80=238) tied for 46th, Susy Grunden (78-77-85=240) finished 51st, junior Aly Smith (80-80-83=243) and sophomore Chelsea Moccio (81-84-78=243) tied for 55th, freshman Patricia Garcia (82-80-82=244) placed 58th, sophomore Janell Lysack (80-86-81=247) tied for 59th and freshman Kirby Kramer (80-85-84=249) tied for 66th.

Auburn junior Carlie Yadloczky won the individual title with a score of 213 (70-73-70). Her total was low enough to set a new tournament record for lowest 54-hole score.

Texas A&M returns to action Sept. 23-25 when the Aggies compete at the Fall Preview at the Vanderbilt Legends Club, site of the 2012 NCAA Championship. The invitation-only event is open to the top finishing teams at last year's championship.
