Mathias Named a CS360 Primetime Performer

Texas A&M soccer senior Merritt Mathias was named a CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer of the Week, the site announced today.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M soccer senior Merritt Mathias was named a CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer of the Week, the site announced today.

Mathias (Birmingham, Ala.) led the Aggies to a 2-1 week last week, including a 9-0 shutout against McNeese State and an overtime upset over then-No. 1 North Carolina.

The forward netted the game winner against the Cowgirls as the Aggies soared to a home blowout. In the 4-3 victory over the top-ranked Tar Heels, Mathias led the A&M attack in outshooting UNC, 20-to-13, posting three shots of her own with two on frame. Mathias' biggest contribution of the game came in the form of two assists, including one for the equalizing goal that sent the match into overtime.

"Merritt has put in some great performances for A&M since joining us last season," head coach G Guerrieri said. "Against UNC, she was the catalyst in keeping them under pressure, and then provided two great assists on the goals which brought us back from down 1-3 to tied 3-3."

The aggressive senior leads the Big 12 in shots (37) and shots per game (4.62). She was picked as a preseason favorite, earning a spot on both the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List and the Preseason All-Big 12 Team.

Mathias and the Aggies host Baylor Friday in the first conference match of the season. The game is set for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff at Ellis Field. All fans wearing an Aggie Ring will receive free admission to the match. The weekend will end with a 12:30 p.m. game against Fordham on Sunday at Ellis Field.
