FRANKLIN, TENN. - The No. 16 Texas A&M women's golf team turned in a five-over-par 293 on Saturday and is tied for ninth place after the second round of the Mason Rudolph Fall Preview at Vanderbilt's Legends Club.
Sophomore Katerina Ruzickova carded the lowest score of the day for the Aggies with an even-par 72 and is now tied for 15th with a 146.
Junior Mary Michael Maggio had another solid round with a one-over 73 and is still in the top 10, tied for eighth with a 145. Maggio is seven shots off the pace of Alabama's Jennifer Kirby who shot a six-under 66 on the second day and leads with 138.
Junior Aly Smith matched the lowest round of her career with a one-over 73 and climbed up from 75th to a tie for 51st.
Sophomore Natalie Reeves (82-75) and junior Susy Grunden (77-80) are tied for 74th at 157.
"We took care of the details a little bit better and all and all it was a pretty good day," A&M head coach Trelle McCombs said. "We paid attention to hitting more greens and gave ourselves a chance to make something happen.
"Aly stepped up for us and played well. I'm really proud of her and how she held her composure today.
"It was also another good round for Kat and Mary Michael. They're both capable of shooting a low number on this golf course. It's just a matter of their putters getting hot. If that happens there's no telling what they can do."
The Aggies (596) are 17 strokes out of the lead which is held by top-ranked UCLA. The Bruins moved into first place with a 5-under 283 Saturday and are at 579 overall, six shots better than No. 3 Alabama (585). The rest of the top five include North Carolina with 588, Arizona State with 589 and Duke and Virginia tied for fifth with 590.
Texas A&M tees off in the third and final round beginning at 7:30 a.m. Sunday and are paired with No. 2 Southern California and host Vanderbilt.
