COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Head coach Jo Evans and the Texas A&M softball team begin their fall exhibition season tomorrow as they host Blinn College in a 6 p.m. game at the Aggie Softball Complex. The game will be free to the public.
The Blinn Buccaneers placed five players on the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) National Junior College Atheltics Association (NJCAA) All-America team after finishing fourth in the NJCAA Division I Women's Fastpitch National Championship tournament. The coaching staff, consisting of head coach Rick Church and assistants Jami Ingram and Haley Long, was named the NJCAA Div. I Regional Coaching Staff of the Year after the team appeared in its third-consecutive national tournament.
The Aggies finished the 2011 season at the NCAA Super Regional for the fourth time in program history. The team returns All-Americans Mel Dumezich and Meagan May, along with 2011 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year Natalie Villarreal and All-College Station Regional honoree Amber Garza. Fourteen letterwinners will return to the diamond in 2012, while six newcomers were added to the roster.
The A&M softball team will continue the fall season on Saturday, Oct. 1 in the SKGSL College Classic in Spring, Texas, matching up against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Stephen F. Austin. To learn more about Aggie softball, log on to AggieAthletics.com.
