Frederick's 65-Yard TD Return Honored

The Defensive Performance of the Year is part of a four-month competition that lets fans determine which individual performances reign supreme during the 2011 college football season.

CHICAGO – Texas A&M's senior defensive back Terrence Frederick was nominated for the Defensive Performance of the Year, Intersport announced. The Defensive Performance of the Year is part of a four-month competition that lets fans determine which individual performances reign supreme during the 2011 college football season. The winners will be revealed during the two hour All-Star Football Challenge special airing at 7 p.m. ET Feb. 3 on ESPN2. In addition to recognizing the season's top performances, the All-Star Football Challenge will feature college football's biggest stars in a live skills challenge. In the 13 year history of the event, 41 first-round NFL draft picks have participated in the All-Star Football Challenge.

From now until the end of Bowl season, the two defensive performances of the week will be featured on the All-Star Football Challenge Facebook page (www.facebook.com/AllStarFootball ), along with two top individual performers among quarterbacks, running backs and receivers. The top weekly vote-getter will proceed to the finals, which run Jan. 19-25.

Frederick had eight tackles and 1.5 for a loss and a key return in the 45-40 victory over Texas Tech. With the Red-Raiders about to cut the Aggies' lead to five points midway into the third quarter, Frederick helped swing the momentum back to Texas A&M when he recovered a blocked FG attempt and returned it 65 yards for the score.  The return made the score at the time 38-23 and put the game out-of-reach.

The other week five nominee for Defensive Performance of the Year is Tevin Elliot of Baylor. The defensive end had five tackles, 1.5 sacks, and an 86-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown in the 49-26 win against Iowa State. Elliot's recovery halted a Cyclones drive in the Bears' red zone and secured the victory.
At the other positions, week five nominees include Nebraska's Rex Burkhead and Montclair State's Chris D'Andrea at running back, West Virginia's Stedman Bailey and Wake Forest's Chris Bailey at receiver, and Stanford's Andrew Luck and Virginia Tech's Logan Thomas at quarterback.   To learn more about any of these incredible performances and to vote for any of the nominated players, visit www.Facebook.com/AllStarFootball . Fans can vote as often as they would like in each category and can share their vote with Facebook friends. Week five voting opened today and ends on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 9:59 a.m. ET.

The All-Star Football Challenge features the top college football players competing in a series of skills competitions that put their individual talents on display.
