Aggie Women to Compete at HEB Baylor Invitational

Several members of the Texas A&M women's tennis team will be competing in the HEB Baylor Women's Invitational this weekend at the Hurd Tennis Center (formerly the Baylor Tennis Center) in Waco, Texas.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Several members of the Texas A&M women's tennis team will be competing in the HEB Baylor Women's Invitational this weekend at the Hurd Tennis Center (formerly the Baylor Tennis Center) in Waco, Texas.

First and second round matches in both singles and doubles are scheduled to be contested on Friday with action beginning at 8 a.m.

A&M's Janelle Cuthbertson, who will be competing for the first time this fall, opens against Luicija Smaizyte of UT Arlington at 8 a.m., and Sheri Olivier takes on Emily Newton of South Alabama at 9:45 a.m. in the first round of the 46-player singles draw.

Aggies Lauren Santacroce, Sun Wen and No. 1 seed and 24th-ranked Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar received first-round byes and will take the court for second-round action Friday at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively.

Olivier and Santacroce will team up in the 21-team doubles draw and will face C.C. Sardinha and Leyla Simmons of Oklahoma State Friday at 8 a.m.

Sanchez-Quintanar and Sun Wen are the No. 2 seed in doubles. Following a first-round bye, the duo will take on Terri Anderson and Kris Roberts of SMU at 3 p.m. on Friday.

Other schools represented in the tournament are Baylor, Lamar, Tarleton State and TCU.
