Aggie Women in Second After First Round of Susie Maxwell

The 11th-ranked Texas A&M women's golf team carded a season-low 288 and is in second place after the first round of the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic Sunday at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.

NORMAN, Okla. - The 11th-ranked Texas A&M women's golf team carded a season-low 288 and is in second place after the first round of the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic Sunday at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.

With the even-par score, the Aggies trail leader Florida State by just four strokes and are followed by New Mexico (289) and Texas Tech (289) in third and host Oklahoma (293) in fifth.

Sophomore Natalie Reeves paced A&M individually with a 2-under 70 and is tied for third place, just two strokes behind co-leaders Ket Preamchuen (68) of Kennesaw State and Kimberly Kaufman (68)of Texas Tech. From Euless, Texas, Reeves had strong start on the front nine with birdies on 2, 3 and 7. She finished the back nine with a birdie and two bogeys.

"We played pretty solid today," said A&M head coach Trelle McCombs. "I'm very proud of how we kept our composure. Some players didn't start off great, but kept a great attitude and persevered thru that. I'm so proud of Natalie getting off to a good start and I'm very excited to see what we can do tomorrow."

Sophomore Katerina Ruzickova also sits in the top 10 individually, tied for ninth, with a one-under 71. She was one-under at the turn with a birdie on 8 and covered up a pair of bogeys on the back nine with birdies on 17 and 18.

Junior Mary Michael Maggio fired a one-over 73 and is tied for 17th, while freshman Patricia Garcia and junior Sarah Beth Davis each shot a two-over 74 and are tied for 22nd.

The Aggies begin second-round play on Monday at 10:20 a.m. and will play alongside New Mexico and Florida State.
