Aggie juniors Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar and Sun Wen both advanced to the semifinals in singles with a pair of wins today, and seniors Sheri Olivier and Lauren Santacroce had a walkover to advance to the semifinals in doubles.
Sanchez-Quintanar, the No. 2 seed in the 46-player singles draw, defeated Malika Rose of Okahoma State, 7-5, 6-4 in the round of 16 and then knocked off fifth seeded Jordaan Sanford of Baylor, 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. Santchez-Quintanar will face No. 1 seed Marta Lesniak of SMU at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Wen picked up back-to-back wins against seeded players, topping No.4 seed Edyta Cieplucha of SMU, 7-6 (5), 6-3 in the round of 16 and then holding off No. 7 seed Maria Martinez of UT Arlington, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7). Wen will attempt to eliminate another seeded player tomorrow as she takes on No. 3 seed Diana Nakic of Baylor in the semifinal round at 10:30 a.m.
Olivier and Santacroce will face No. 4 seed Federica Denti and Kelsey Sundaram of TCU in the doubles semifinals at 8 a.m., with the championship match following at 9:15 a.m.
Sanchez-Quintanar and Wen were the No. 2 seed in the 21-team doubles draw but fell to Malika Rose and Kanyapat Narattana of Oklahoma State, 8-4, in the quarterfinals.
A&M went 0-3 in the singles consolation bracket as Santacroce fell to Carolina Maso of Lamar, 6-3, 6-1, Janelle Cuthbertson fell to Helene Czudek of Lamar, 6-1, 6-7, 1-0 (12), and Olivier dropped a 5-7, 6-0, 1-0 (4) decision to Carolina Salas of Lamar.
