GUADALAJARA, Mexico --- Texas A&M swimmers Rita Medrano and Lili Ibanez both earned medals on their home soil at the 2011 Pan American Games.
Medrano, a senior from Aguascalientes, Mexico, earned a pair of bronze medals with third place finishes in the 200-meter butterfly and with Mexico's 800 freestyle relay, while Ibanez, a sophomore from Celaya, Mexico, took a bronze with the 800 free relay.
Medrano turned in a time 2:12.43 in the 200 fly, and swam a leg of the 800 free relay in the prelims. Ibanez swam the leadoff leg in the finals and turned in a time of 2:01.17 as Mexico finished behind the United States and Brazil in a time of 8:12.19.
Ibanez also finished sixth in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.74. Former A&M standout Alia Atkinson also earned a spot on the medal stand with a second-place finish in the 200-meter IM in a time of 2:14.75, which is a Jamaican national record.
