COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Plowboys clinched the Omaha Cup on Wednesday by defeating the Farmers 4-0 for their second straight victory during Texas A&M baseball's annual Maroon & White Series on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
Junior All-American pitcher Michael Wacha picked up the win in the contest as he scattered five hits in six shutout innings of work.
Freshman catcher Cole Lankford turned in a 3-for-4 day at the plate for the Plowboys including a leadoff double in the fourth inning to put himself in position to come around to score the game's opening run on an RBI double by senior infielder Scott Arthur.
Sophomore outfielder Jace Statum added a sacrifice fly off Farmer starter Ty Schlottmann in the inning to make the score 2-0 Plowboys.
During the seventh inning, the Plowboys tacked on two more runs to their lead, opening a 4-0 advantage with run-scoring singles from Lankford and senior Matt Juengel.
Relievers Jason Freeman and Kyle Martin kept the Farmers off the scoreboard for the final three innings to preserve the victory.
The Farmers were held scoreless for the second straight day despite multi-hit games from Krey Bratsen, Jacob House and Daniel Mengden.
The Maroon & White Series concludes on Thursday as the two teams square off for the final time this fall at 3 p.m.
