The maroon team saw three players in double
figures en route to a 55-49 win over the white team Friday afternoon in
Texas A&M's annual Maroon and White Game at Reed Arena.
Junior Elston Turner led the way for the maroons, scoring 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting, while junior Naji Hibbert scored 15 and added 3 steals and junior Ray Turner poured in 14 on 7-of-9 shooting and grabbed a game-high 8 rebounds.
The white team was led by senior David Loubeau, who went 9-of-12 from the floor and scored a game high 21 points. The 2011 all-Big 12 pick also grabbed 6 rebounds and blocked 2 shots. Junior and preseason All-Big 12 honoree Khris Middleton scored 9 points and added 6 assists, while senior transfer Zach Kinsley turned in an 8-point effort.
Senior Dash Harris had a strong game at the point for the maroon team, scoring 8 points and dishing out a team-high 6 assists. Sophomore Kourtney Roberson led the white team on the boards with 7, while Jamal Branch added 5 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the white squad.
“Overall there were more positives than negatives,” associate head coach Glynn Cyprien said. “I think our inside game was pretty good, David Loubeau played well, he's a strong inside player for us. Ray (Turner) brought some real good energy. Jamal (Branch) really pushed the ball and I thought Dash (Harris) had good leadership.”
The teams combined to shoot 49 percent from the floor in a game which consisted of two 12-minute halves.
The white team came out of the gate fast, building a quick 21-11 lead, but the maroons closed the half on a 9-2 run that was capped off by Hibbert's half-court buzzer beater as time expired. White took the 23-20 lead into the break and held it till about halfway through the second half before maroon pulled away for the win.
Texas A&M next prepares for its lone exhibition game of the season, set for Monday, Nov. 3 against Dallas Baptist. Tip time is 7 p.m. at Reed Arena.
