Bone and Scott Lead Aggies in Maroon & White Game

The defending national champion Texas A&M women's basketball team held its Maroon and White game in front of a crowd of close to 1,000 fans on Friday night at Reed Arena.

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS - The defending national champion Texas A&M women's basketball team held its Maroon and White game in front of a crowd of close to 1,000 fans on Friday night at Reed Arena.

Big 12 Preseason Newcomer of the Year Kelsey Bone (Houston, Texas) led the White squad with a team-high 21 points and seven rebounds, while freshman Tori Scott (Marrero, La.) led the Maroon team with 20 points.

Senior Adaora Elonu (Houston, Texas) scored 15 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists. Senior Tyra White (Kansas City, Mo.) and sophomore Karla Gilbert (College Station, Texas) contributed 14 points apiece and Gilbert added seven boards.

Also scoring in double figures for the Aggies were senior Sydney Carter (DeSoto, Texas) and junior Kristi Bellock (St. Rose, La.) with 12 points. Junior Adrienne Pratcher (Memphis, Tenn.) had 10 points and a scrimmage-high seven assists and four steals.

"I was pleased with what I saw tonight," head coach Gary Blair said. "I know if you talk to Coach Schaefer he will not be pleased, but our offense has been behind our defense since the season started. It was nice to see us perform on the offensive end. We still need to work on execution, but that is what this time of year is all about."

The Aggies played five eight-minute periods, including two against the men's practice squad and ended the scrimmage with White holding the advantage over Maroon, 88-84. The team also signed autographs and took the opportunity to pose for pictures with fans after the scrimmage.

A&M hosts Oklahoma City for an exhibition game on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. before its season home opener against Lamar on Nov. 12.
