A&M Tied for Eighth at Alamo Invitational

The 17th-ranked Texas A&M women's golf team shot a 10-over 298 and is tied for eighth place after the first round of the Alamo Invitational Sunday at Briggs Ranch Golf Course.

SAN ANTONIO - The 17th-ranked Texas A&M women's golf team shot a 10-over 298 and is tied for eighth place after the first round of the Alamo Invitational Sunday at Briggs Ranch Golf Course.

The Aggies are 10 strokes back from leader TCU which shot an even-par 288. Kentucky is second with 290 (+2), followed by host UTSA and Baylor tied for third with 293 (+5). Nebraska and UCF finished the first round tied for fifth with 294 (+6) and Texas Tech was a stroke ahead of A&M with 297 (+9).

"We made a few mistakes by not being tidy with our putters, but other than that we played well today," said A&M head coach Trelle McCombs. "I look for us to come out of the gates firing on all cylinders tomorrow and we play like we know how."

Texas State is also tied for eighth with the Aggies and both teams are trailed by Minnesota (301) and New Mexico State (301), Kennesaw State (304), Missouri State (306) and SMU (309).

Three Aggies - sophomore Katerina Ruzickova and juniors Sarah Beth Davis and Susy Grunden - shot a 2-over 74 and are tied for 23rd after their first 18. Grunden is competing as an individual.

Freshman Patricia Garcia and sophomore Natalie Reeves each turned in a 3-over 75 and are tied for 30th, while junior Mary Michael Maggio carded a 4-over 76 and is tied for 40th.

UTSA's Fabiola Arriaga and UCF's Monifa Sealy each shot 3-under 69's and lead the tournament individually.

A&M begins Tuesday's second round at 8:30 a.m. from hole No. 1 and plays alongside Texas State and Texas Tech. Live scoring will be available at golfstat.com. Fans can also follow along with periodical updates on Twitter at @Aggiewomensgolf.
