
Aggies Fall to Longhorns

The Longhorns won their 22nd consecutive home match, including their 27th straight Big 12 home match to improve to 10-4 overall and 3-1 in Big 12 play.
A&M falls to 13-4, including 2-2 in Big 12 matches.
Texas never trailed in the opening set as the Aggies were held to six kills and a -.087 hitting percentage. The Longhorns, who hit .417 with 14 kills along with five blocks in the set, used a 4-0 run to build a 9-4 lead. A&M later got within a point at 12-11 after setter Allie Sawatzky posted a kill and followed with an ace, but Texas went on an 11-3 run to build a 23-14 lead. A&M kill leader Kelsey Black posted her first kill of the match to put the Aggies within 23-15, but Texas countered with back-to-back kills to end the set.
The score was tied five times to start the second set before Texas used a 7-0 run to break away and take a 15-8 lead. A&M, which was outhit, .375 to .136, never got closer than four points before Khat Bell posted her fourth kill of the set to close out the frame and give the Longhorns a 2-0 lead in the match.
There were 14 ties and seven lead changes in the third set. A&M outhit Texas .410 to .286 but committed six service errors as the Longhorns took the set, 25-23.
A&M had taken its final lead of the set when Black recorded back-to-back kills and Lindsey Miller also added a kill to give the Aggies a 21-20 advantage. Texas tied the score at 21 and 22 and regained the lead at 23-22 on a kill by Bailey Webster. Miller knotted the score at 23-23 with a kill, but another kill by Webster put the Longhorns at match point. A&M's next attack sailed long as Texas completed the sweep.
Black, Miller and Alisia Kastmo led the Aggies with nine kills apiece. Tori Mellinger had a team-high seven digs, and Miller led with three blocks and 11 points. Sawatzky dished out 26 assists.
Texas outhit A&M .349 to .202 for the match and led in kills (42-33), digs (31-23) and blocks (7-5.5). Khat Bell led all players with 12 kills while hitting .611.
A&M concludes a two-match road swing Saturday as the Aggies travel to Lawrence, Kan., to take on the Kansas Jayhawks. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center.
