COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M soccer senior Bri Young and freshman Kelley Monogue were named Big 12 Players of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Young (Castle Pines North, Colo.) was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for the first time this season, and Monogue (McKinney, Texas) took Newcomer-of-the-Week honors for the fourth time in six weeks.
Young netted the game winner and contributed an assist as the No. 22 Aggies defeated Texas in a 3-0 shutout in Austin Friday night. The midfielder missed the first part of the season for recovery from a 2010 injury, but has been a force for the Aggies in the past several weeks. Young was recently named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team.
Monogue earns her fifth Big 12 weekly award in six weeks with this honor. The freshman scored the go-ahead goal for A&M against the Longhorns on Friday and continues to lead the conference in goals, goals per game, points and points per game. Monogue recently made Big 12 history - becoming only the second player ever to be named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and the Newcomer of the Year in the same season. The forward was also selected to the All-Big 12 first team and the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team.
The 21st-ranked and second-seeded Aggies face Kansas tonight at 8 p.m. in the Big 12 Championship quarterfinal in San Antonio.
