COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS - The preseason No. 6 nationally-ranked Texas A&M women's basketball team hosts NAIA Division I powerhouse Oklahoma City University in an exhibition game on Sunday Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. (CT) at Reed Arena.
The Aggies, who return 10 letterwinners from last year's NCAA National Championship squad, were picked to finish second in the Big 12 Conference Preseason Poll. They are led by preseason All-Big 12 selection Tyra White (Kansas City, Mo.) who is A&M's top returning scorer averaging 13.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game last season. Senior Sydney Carter (DeSoto, Texas) was chosen Preseason All-Big 12 honorable mention, while junior Kelsey Bone (Houston, Texas) earned Preseason Newcomer of the Year and Alexia Standish (Colleyville, Texas) was named Preseason Co-Freshman of the Year.
A&M also boasts the third-best and highest-ever rated recruiting class in school history which includes 5-foot-8 guard Standish, 5-foot-10 guard Tori Scott (Marrero, La.) and 6-foot-7 center Rachel Mitchell (Houston, Texas).
"Oklahoma City University has a winning basketball tradition on the NAIA level and will be a very well-coached team," said A&M head coach Gary Blair, who enters his ninth season in Aggieland. "Coach (Rob) Edmisson is a good friend of mine and knows how to coach and win at the highest level. We want our players to get their feet wet, set the tempo and execute on Sunday and hopefully OCU will get us ready for the regular season."
