COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS - Callie Scheffler of Dallas, Texas, has signed a national letter-of-intent to play college golf at Texas A&M, head coach Trelle McCombs announced Wednesday.
"I'm very excited about Callie joining the Aggie family next season," McCombs said. "She is a young player with a lot of talent. I'm mostly looking forward to her growth over the next few years. When Callie came on her visit to A&M, we all felt like she already displayed many of the characteristics and qualities of an Aggie."
Scheffler, a senior and two-year captain of the varsity golf team at Highland Park High School in Dallas, is a two-time first team all-state, all-district and all-region selection. She was named the newcomer of the year as a freshman and won the Scot Pride Award as a sophomore. In the past two years, Scheffler has won 10 tournaments and posted 21 top-10 finishes.
Scheffler is a six-time Girls Junior Club Champion at Royal Oaks Country Club and a two-time member of the Jackie Burke Cup North team on the Texas Legends Golf Tour. She started playing competitive golf in high school and is also a four-year member of the varsity lacrosse team at Highland Park, where she won the Head, Heart and Hustle Award for the highest work ethic in 2010.
Academically, Scheffler is a member of the National Honor Society, an AP Scholar with honors and has earned excellence awards in chemistry, geometry, AP human geography, U.S. history and algebra II. She is a Cornerstone Athlete, which is a title for those with excellence in academics and athletics, and she was a member of the 2011 U.S. Lacrosse Girls All-Academic team.
Scheffler is involved in many service organizations including Fellowship of Christian Athletes, YMCA CHAMPS and Habitat for Humanity to name just a few.
Scheffler describes herself as a team player who loves the game and has a talent for it. She chose Texas A&M because she thought everything about it was right. "Texas A&M has a great team, a great school and great coaching staff," Scheffler said. "I am looking forward to contributing to a great tradition!"
