COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS - The defending national champion Texas A&M women's basketball team is off to a 4-0 start this season and climbed to a No. 5 national ranking in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll released Monday.
The undefeated Aggies achieved their highest ranking in the AP Poll since the team was ranked fifth for three straight weeks in February 2011. A&M has now been ranked in the AP Poll for 67 consecutive weeks and 48 all-time in the top 10.
Baylor received 39 of the 40 first place ballots and remains ranked No. 1, followed by Connecticut, Stanford and Notre Dame. The Irish fell two spots after losing to Baylor, 94-81, on Sunday.
Texas A&M garnered the other first place ballot at No. 5.
Tennessee fell three places to sixth after losing in overtime at Virginia and was followed by Duke, Maryland, Miami and Georgia to round out the top 10.
The Aggies travel to Freeport, Bahamas, this week for two games as part of the 2011 Junkanoo Jam. The team tips off the tournament against Temple at 2:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25 and will face either Iowa or St. John's on Saturday, Nov. 26.
